Stainless Steel 409 Nuts consist of mainly 10.5–11.75% chromium, up to a maximum of 0.08% carbon, and minor levels of nickel, manganese, and silicon. This ferritic stainless steel has good oxidation resistance to 675°C and average corrosion protection. Its mechanical characteristics consist of a tensile strength of approximately 380 MPa, yield strength of approximately 170 MPa, an elongation of 20%, and a hardness of up to 183 HB. All these characteristics provide excellent formability, weldability, and toughness with cost-effective performance in hot and oxidizing conditions where the use of premium alloys cannot be justified.
